This short story is based off of a dream I've had. I modified it since it was easier to write it like this because in my dream I battled against two witches and not just one. Besides it was a dream that I vaguely remembered now. I might make a second short story to follow after this one but it is less likely. Critiques are okay but not necessarily needed since I just made this just for fun and it won't be published.
The Crack In The Pipe by Nathan Sky
Meranda did not know how she got to school and it was so late at night. Her head was pounding as she glanced around the classroom in confusion.
"Did someone kidnap me? Ugh."
It was scary being in the room alone with no memory of how she got there. Meranda staggered with both hands on the desk the chair behind her sliding back. It was starting to come back to her now.
"Meranda how does this taste?" Her friend smiled handing her a wooden spoon of soup for taste.
"This is so sweet Ashely. What is t-?" And then there was nothing.
Meranda clutched her hands. Yeah she remembered alright. That devilish grin hiding under all that innocence. Waves of anger hit her inner core. Meranda was furious and yet confused. Why would Ashley do this to her? She demanded an explanation. Meranda marched to the door.
"Damn. It's jammed!" She tried forcing the door open but it didn't budge.
Slam!
Startled by the sound against the door Meranda jumped back.
"Tehe Meranda let's play a game of fix the pipe."
That same grin from earlier. Meranda gasped.
"Hey let me out of here. This isn't funny Ashley!"
Meranda jiggled the doornob until she heard a loud roaring sound from the pipes overhead.
"Oh Gods."
Water burst out of the pipe forming a crack. Meranda yelled being swept backwards as water formed on the floor.
"Ashley let me out!"
"Fix the pipe Meranda. I know you can. "
She knew she could? What does she know?! Realization struck her and it was time to play dumb. Maybe Ashley only thought she knew what she is. Maybe.
"How? I can't even change a battery let alone how to fix a pipe!" Meranda looked around frantically.
She couldn't fix it in front of her but she was running out of time.
"Fix the pipe or drown witch."
Oh hell no she did not just go there. 'Game over bitch.' Meranda's attitude changed instantly as she glared down at Ashley before turning towards the pipe. Water splashed on her face as Meranda reached up and placed her hands over the crack. 'You will regret this.'
Closing her eyes she concentrated and whispered, "Water slow. Metal form. Water slow, metal form."
The water slowed down giving the metal time to stretch and form. The rack was gone but she still remained angry. Beyond angry even.
Meranda trudged over to the door her voice barely a whisper, "Wood, to fire, to air. Wood , to fire, to air."
The door caught fire and her chant continued until the fire evaporated into air. Ashley looked amused, impressed even.
"Nice job witch."
They circled around each other like two hungry wolves. 'I'll show her.' They faced each other, the final showdown.
"Trap thy enemy nice and slow. Trap thy enemy in a hole."
Meranda felt the ground soften and give way like quick sand only slower. 'I'll trump her. I'll win and make her regret ever calling me a witch.'
"Floor to solid. Karma negate." She chanted louder and louder arms raising as she felt the power flow through her.
The halls trembled and the floor underneath her hardened. The floor under Ashley however turned into sand and started swallowing her up. There was no escape even though she tried. Ashley screamed not able to move her feet and her spells were useless.
"Karma sucks doesn't it Ashley?" Meranda waved.
"Bye bye."
Ashley was gone and Meranda knew it was over.
"And I'm not a witch." She muttered slumping to the floor feeling a little drained.
Foosteps echoed behind her coming closer and closer.
"Then just what are you if not a witch?"
